The Plumber in a paint manufacturing facility is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems that handle water, chemicals, solvents, and wastewater. This role ensures the safe and efficient flow of materials through piping networks, supporting production processes while adhering to strict safety and environmental standards in a chemical-intensive environment.


Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain piping systems for water supply, chemical transfer, solvent lines, and wastewater disposal in paint production areas.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot plumbing issues in equipment such as mixing tanks, pumps, and filtration systems to prevent leaks or blockages that could disrupt manufacturing.
  • Work with chemical-resistant materials and specialized fittings to handle hazardous substances like pigments, resins, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and engineers to design and modify plumbing layouts for new production lines or equipment upgrades.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on valves, pumps, drains, and backflow prevention devices to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing issues, such as leaks or spills, to minimize downtime and environmental risks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams for accurate installation and repairs.
  • Ensure all work complies with local plumbing codes, OSHA standards, and industry-specific regulations for handling hazardous materials.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of plumbing parts in maintenance management systems.
  • Train production staff on basic plumbing safety and assist in implementing water conservation or waste reduction initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for major plumbing projects or specialized repairs.

Requirements

Education.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program or vocational training in plumbing or pipefitting.

Experience.

3 years of plumbing experience, preferably in industrial, chemical, or manufacturing settings; experience with paint or petrochemical industries is a plus.

Technical Skills.

  • Proficiency in using plumbing tools, pipe cutters, welders, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of industrial plumbing systems, including PVC, CPVC, stainless steel, and corrosion-resistant piping.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems related to fluid transfer in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and understand fluid dynamics in chemical processes.
