The Accounting Intern will gain practical, hands-on experience in the banking sector by supporting the finance and accounting department in its daily operations. This role is designed to provide an understanding of core accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards specific to the banking industry. The intern will assist with preparing financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with internal controls.

• Assist in the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports and statements.
• Support the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including inter-branch and nostro/vostro accounts.
• Help process journal entries and assist with the month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Learn to verify and process transactions in accordance with the bank’s policies and procedures.
• Assist in the analysis of financial data and help in the preparation of budget performance reports.
• Support the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
• Aid in the documentation and monitoring of internal controls within the finance department.
• Participate in the preparation for internal and external audits by organizing supporting documentation.
• Perform filing and administrative duties related to the accounting function.
• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or senior team members.

Education.

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Experience.

Any previous internship or practical exposure in finance is a plus.

Technical Skills.

• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting (IFRS knowledge is advantageous).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly strong Excel skills (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUP).
• A keen interest in learning banking operations and financial regulations.
