The Mechanical Technician in a paint manufacturing facility is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment used in the production, mixing, and packaging of paint products. This role ensures that machinery operates efficiently to meet production targets while maintaining safety and quality standards in a fast-paced industrial environment.


Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on paint manufacturing equipment, including mixers, pumps, conveyors, filling machines, and milling systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in equipment, such as agitators, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and gearboxes, to minimize production downtime.
  • Conduct maintenance on specialized equipment like high-speed dispersers, ball mills, and automated filling lines specific to paint production.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Install and calibrate new machinery or upgrades to existing systems, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain auxiliary systems, such as ventilation, dust collection, and cooling systems, to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage in maintenance logs or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Collaborate with production teams and engineers to optimize equipment performance and suggest process improvements.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials (e.g., solvents, pigments) and using personal protective equipment (PPE) like respirators, gloves, and safety goggles.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards related to paint manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and assist in training production staff on equipment operation.

Requirements

Education.

High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or vocational training in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field is preferred.

Experience.

3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in paint, chemical, or similar process manufacturing industries.

Technical Skills. 

  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for mechanical repairs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, conveyors, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems used in paint production.
  • Familiarity with reading technical blueprints, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and controls is an advantage.
